It took me a while to understand why cupcakes were so popular in the past few years. After all, a slice of cake can be just as wonderful.
Now I get it. A cupcake is a smaller portion size, but it includes more of the goodies than a piece of cake. It often includes specialty frosting and bits of candy arranged so carefully it resembles art. So it’s a real treat. Besides, the first few bites of a piece of cake are always the best. Perhaps cupcakes should start going mini?
Enter the gourmet doughnut with a wide variety of fillings and decorations. And when you think about it, a doughnut hole resembles a cake pop. Somehow I don’t think they will take the spotlight away from decorated cupcakes. We’ll see. Of course designer donuts will start at about $3 each. You can get gluten-free and trans-fat free doughnuts. Perhaps you can get organic doughnuts too.
Click here for more about this at SmartMoney. The article says people will buy these specialty doughnuts to feel less deprived when they can’t afford a vacation. Possibly. Small indulgences are always popular during recessions.
Have you seen these gourmet doughnuts yet? Would you be inspired to decorate a doughnut? What are your favorite small indulgences?
