I love coffee in many forms. My favorite is the Lavazza brand for being almost a dessert when you add a little cream. Yum.
I ran across an article the other day for making the most of ground coffee that uses just about the cheapest coffee maker ever. Here’s the scoop!

the strainer he uses |
The writer brews the coffee grounds in a Pyrex glass measuring cup and then strains it all with a metal strainer with very fine holes. He is glad to eliminate plastic from the brewing process & the Pyrex measuring cup is highly unlikely to break. He was frustrated with so many glass carafes breaking in his French press coffee makers and thought through what was really necessary to come up with this system. The strainer costs $12.61 on Amazon (no affiliation) as of 8/2/2012. It’s metal and should never break. He says it’s easy to clean and it works best if you don’t use a fine grind of coffee grounds.
One of his commenters suggests skipping the measuring cup altogether for an even simpler process. If you first put the strainer in your coffee cup, add the grounds and hot water, it can brew in your cup. Of course all of this is for one cup at a time. If that fits your needs it could be a good trick.
I realize many people are devoted fans of their coffee makers. But if you are looking for a simpler, cheaper coffee maker, this could be worth a try. Could it really be this easy? And so cheap?
