A slice of watermelon just says Summer! Kids love to spit the seeds. It’s so refreshing on a hot day. Here are some creative ways to serve watermelon that are fun to try.
I love these stars you make with metal cookie cutter. They are great on a place for those who want just a taste of watermelon and not a big slice. They can also be added to salads and drinks. They would be beautiful in a white wine sangria with blueberries.
How are your carving skills? A watermelon boat is easy and can be a serving bowl for a fruit salad or watermelon pieces. How about a shark?
It’s not much more difficult and is a lot of fun. Place a tray or bowl under the shark to catch drips. I’m guessing the eye is a black olive attached with a toothpick.

For fancy appetizers, cut small cubes of watermelon from the part of the watermelon that has no seeds. Hollow out a small indentation at the top of each cube using a melon baller. Place a small amount of feta cheese that’s been mixed with some chopped fresh mint atop each cube. Go gourmet and put a little bit of balsamic glaze in the hollow. Remember it’s easier for people to eat a fourth of a round slice than a half slice.
