Craving a spiced pumpkin latte from your favorite coffee shop? It’s really easy to make at home and you won’t get a pumpkin sized hole in your wallet!
I love having a cup of Pumpkin Spice Latte in the evening (using decaf) for an after-dinner coffee that is more like a rich dessert. It’s great to serve at a brunch or if you have someone over for coffee. It looks fancier with a dollop of whipped cream on top and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
Pumpkin Spice Latte for One
1 cup hot milk (I heat mine in the microwave.)
Mix in: 2 ounces double strength brewed coffee (I just use a teaspoon of instant coffee.)
1 1/4 teaspoons sugar
1/8 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (see below to make your own)
1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract
Mix well & sprinkle a pinch of pumpkin pie spic on top.
Optional: top with whipped cream before adding the pinch of spice.
This makes one luxurious latte. The original recipe calls for whole milk, but I use skim milk and notice no difference. The recipe says one cup is 158 calories, but using skim milk brings that down. There are 8.3 grams of protein and the cinnamon in the pumpkin pie spice is good for you. For a semi-decadent treat, that’s not too bad. I don’t add the whipped cream, so my calories are only the skim milk and the little bit of sugar. I know I feel pampered every time I make a cup of this for myself.
No pumpkin pie spice in your cabinet? No problem.
Here’s a quick recipe for the pumpkin pie spice called for in the linked recipe.
Pumpkin Pie Spice Mix (can be used in other recipes too)
2 teaspoons cinnamon1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
Mix the spices and put them in a jar to use in this latte or in any recipe calling for pumpkin pie spice.
The nice thing about making your own pumpkin pie spice mix is that you can adjust the amounts of any spice to your own taste.
Pumpkin Spice Lattes are great for the fall and wonderful through the winter holidays. The specialty coffee shops don’t offer them that long, but you can have one at home whenever you like!

A couple of biscotti on the side seems perfect. Click on the label “biscotti” below this post for some great biscotti recipes. They are inexpensive, easy to make, and low-calorie. Pretty nice for a cookie that is expensive at the coffee shop. Enjoy!

Oops, I know the 5-Spice Mix recipe is on here somewhere. I’ll have to search for it.

Shannyn it IS delicious! I love it, and it’s so easy to make with the spices already mixed. I’m thinking I might like to add a little Chinese 5-spice powder to this. There is a recipe for that on Square Pennies too. Just click on the label “spice mixes to make” to find it. I bet friends would love this as a gift. Good teacher gift!
