Just a reminder that September is the best month to buy a new car. The 2012 models are coming onto the lot and they need to make room for them. So check out the 2011 models they are wanting to get rid of for your best deal.
You could get your best price near the end of the month when they want to post good sales numbers for the month. That’s true every month, but in September it could make your deal even better.
Do your homework and get your financing lined up ahead of time. Car dealers make the bulk of their profit from financing a car. If you get your own financing from a bank or credit union before you walk onto the car lot you will have a much better rate than the car dealer can give you.
When you are getting down to 2 or 3 different models call your insurance agent to find out what each would cost you in insurance.

Heidi, that’s it! We never managed to buy a car in September, but I’m keeping it in mind!

Hey Maggie, this is a great reminder! Now if we could just time it so that our old cars break down in September, then it would be perfect! (But Murphy’s law probably says that the cars sail through September and then break down the next month!)

Hunter, I hear you. We don’t need a new vehicle either. The trouble is we used to buy one when we really needed it! We should have planned ahead & bought in Sept.!

Haha! The reason the stock market goes down in Sept! Thanks, MoneyCone!

All great tips Maggie. I used to work for Ford and as a former insider, the dealers do start to get more desperate at this time. Great time to enjoy the deals offered by manufacturers and their affiliated finance companies.
I don’t need a new car payment right now, otherwise I would out there kicking the tires.

I never knew that! I know September is the worst month for stocks. Now I know why – people are buying cars!
Thanks for the interesting trivia!
