Are you shopping the summer sales?
It’s a great time to snap up beach towels at good prices. Why buy extra beach towels? They are so useful!
We use beach towels for many things besides the beach (where you never have enough). When we used to take road trips with the whole family we’d line the bench seats in the van with beach towels. They were more comfortable on bare legs (summer trips) and helped absorb any spills. If we went to an outdoor event we used them to sit on. They could be wrapped around anyone who was cold. We were always glad we had them along, and they didn’t take up any extra space in the van as the kids were sitting on them!
A beach towel with velour-type pile on one side is an absorbent, smooth napping surface on a portable play yard pad. The towel is more comfortable to sleep on than just a sheet over the plastic pad of the play yard when it’s being used as a portable crib.
Any kind of beach towels can be used as blankets for medium-sized kids when visiting grandparents. If you get a beach towel that is plain red it can even be used as a Christmas tree skirt! Velour towels would be nice for that, but you might need 2.
For an outdoor meal (on a picnic table at the park or in your own backyard) the towels make great colorful tablecloths that can be thrown in the laundry afterwards. You can sew colorful floor pillows for the kids with beach towels. They can take a lot of abuse! Velour towels make nice smaller pillows for the couch. One beach towel would probably make at least 3 of these pillows.
Look for good quality beach towels on sale after the Fourth of July. You can probably think of all sorts of uses for these!
