It’s simple to make wonderful iced coffee with instant coffee powder, sugar, water, and ice.
This is very close to what you might get at an upscale coffee shop and it’s definitely cheaper!
Quick and Easy Iced Coffee for One (adapted from recipe at All Recipes)
1-2 teaspoons of sugar (I prefer 2) 3/4 cup milk (can be non-fat milk)
2 teaspoons instant coffee granules 3 Tablespoon warm water
In a coffee cup put the sugar, coffee granules, and warm water. Stir with a spoon until the sugar and coffee granules are dissolved. Pour into a tall glass filled with ice, then add the milk. Stir with a spoon until the coffee is very cold.
Variations:
1) If you want more of a mocha flavor just add a bit of chocolate syrup to taste. You could even make a swirl of chocolate syrup on the top to look fancy.
2) Add whipped cream to the top with cinnamon sprinkled on top of that.
3) For a very rich taste, add some sweetened condensed milk instead of the regular milk.
4) For the skinniest version don’t add sugar or milk. Or add just one of those.
5) I like to add coffee flavorings that are made for hot coffee. These flavored syrups for coffee often are so good that I don’t need to add sugar. At Sam’s Club I buy DaVinci brand Sugar Free Hazelnut Syrup, but it comes in other flavors. At regular grocery stores I’ve seen the Flavor-Mate brand in small bottles. The larger ones at Sam’s are definitely a better buy. I refill the small dropper bottles from the big bottle so I can get the right amount in the coffee. Just a few drops is enough for a serving, so a bottle of flavoring lasts a long time.
6) You can make this with decaf if you don’t want as much caffeine. Decaf coffee contains some caffeine, but it probably won’t keep you awake at night. I’ve been making decaf iced coffees in the afternoons and evenings and I love it!
Try this great way to cool off whenever you want a special coffee and enjoy the savings. Saving money never tasted so good!

amarige55, I just finished some of this! So good! Cool idea at McDonald’s. I guess this sort of drink is appreciated in a lot of places! Thanks very much for your comment!

When I lived on Okinawa in the late 60s early 70s, this was a favorite drink for the Okinawans every afternoon. Our maid always made it for me and I just love it; I love coffee hot too. In Spain, at the McDonalds, they make cafe on leche. They take a cup of their coffee and add a huge dollop of their soft serve ice cream…it is heavenly!

Travis, I think the reason you like iced coffee is because of it having so much milk in it. It’s almost like really cold chocolate milk, but with a deeper flavor. Even without adding chocolate syrup you can almost believe the flavor is chocolate. I think it tastes more chocolately than chocolate milk (and I like crushed ice in my chocolate milk too).

Thanks, Harri! I hope you like it. If you want a richer taste you could add some sweetened condensed millk. It’s by Eagle Brand here in the US. I don’t know if you have it in the UK, but I hope so. Have a wonderful day!

LOVE LOVE iced coffee- but I’m so particular when it comes to it. So many chain coffee houses just don’t hit the spot for me. Thanks so much for posting this up. I’ll be giving it a go 🙂

Travis, you got me smiling about the smell/taste situation. I hope you & your wife enjoy this iced coffee recipe. It’s really simple & soooooo good. And cooling! This is really cheap to make, and some people have worked out a way to use coffee leftover from the morning brew. You can also freeze leftover coffee to use as ice cubes in iced coffee. Not sure how I’d like that. Think I’ll stick to regular ice because I like to use crushed ice in my iced coffee. Enjoy!

I love the smell of coffee brewing, but don’t like the taste. Odd huh? Especially since it smells just how it tastes.
Oh, and I do actually like iced coffee….so maybe the warmness is really what I don’t like. I dunno, but anyway, this looks great and I’m looking forward to trying it with my wife (who DOES love coffee).

Me too! Isn’t it amazing how a pretty straw really makes it look so much better? Even colored plastic straws add a lot. Very nice for entertaining! Thanks for stopping by!
