These are easy, clear steps to boil eggs for any reason, but especially for making Easter eggs. You can add salt to the water covering the eggs to make them easier to peel. We always cool the eggs by putting the pan of cooked eggs in the sink & running cold water over them to stop the cooking. This helps prevent the dark layer on the outside of the yolk that comes from overcooking. If you don’t want to run water over them very long, just add some ice cubes to the water to help cool them quickly.
Use masking tape on the eggs to get good stripes. Color on designs, names, and swirls with crayons before putting the eggs into the coloring.
To color eggs just add a teaspoon of vinegar to water in a coffee cup & then add the food coloring. After coloring the eggs let them dry & then rub each egg with a drop of vegetable oil to make them shine. They are really pretty that way.
To get special colors click on the label “Easter” below this post. There is a post included there for getting the exact color you want.
We sometimes add a tablespoon of vegetable oil to the coloring cups. That gives a marbled effect. It can make some beautiful eggs!
