Do you wonder if you’ll ever get organized now that school is on? The kids bring home more papers every day!
I find it helps to have a routine with the kids. Don’t let them just drop everything by the front door. They will if you let them!
Bookbags must have a spot where they go right away when the kids come home. Same with shoes, coats, lunch boxes, library books, etc.
I find it helps to have a special place for the library books as they tend to get lost otherwise. We had a special library book shelf below the tv where I could see them!
I use the refrigerator as the place where important papers are put up with magnets. (Our front door works the same way, but I only use that for very important memos to myself that I must see before I go out the door.)
Our kids did their homework at the kitchen table while I did the dishes & cleaned up the kitchen. That way if they needed any help I was right there. Plus I could see if they were actually working! If they did homework in their rooms they tended to get distracted too easily.
I checked to make sure they finished their homework every night & made sure they understood it. I read all the school memos & sent back what was needed in their bookbags.
The bookbags with the completed homework got put in the same place (hanging on each child’s chair at the kitchen table) every night so it was ready to go the next morning.
It gets easier when it’s a routine, and it saves countless headaches in the morning!
