I know it sounds pretty incredible but studies cited by The New York Times show that exercise help kids brains function more efficiently.
Does exercise make your smarter? Those who had more exercise did better on standardized tests. And when kids had 20 minutes of exercise right before a test they did better than those who didn’t.
I suppose it has something to do with getting more blood (and therefore more nutrients) to the brain.
So don’t let your local schools eliminate gym class; it could bring down the school’s test scores. And get your own kids outside every day if possible. Take them on walks, enroll them in sports, play catch, have races, play volleyball, etc. It can help them do well in school.
Oh, it seems the best exercise for this is aerobic–running around and jumping type exercise. I’m thinking just jogging in place could help when there aren’t other opportunities for exercise right before a test. Perhaps walking briskly down the hall to the next class could help.
