OK, I’m not sure where I stand on this project. On the one hand it is a pretty cool looking hanging lamp that costs very litle. On the other hand, it uses styrofoam coffee cups that are not so great for the environment. Because of a law they are made with a more eco-friendly formula these days–no more toxic gases released in manufacturing these. But, I don’t think they compost at all.
On the third hand (!), this looks really great in modern decor and makes a beautiful glowing sphere that makes me feel happy. It seems like it would be a bit of a challenge to make–maybe a group project?
I guess if you make this & decide down the road you don’t want it anymore, you could break up the cups & use the pieces for drainage in potted plants. Styrofoam works well for that & adds almost no weight to the planter.
