Let’s face it, a No-Doz pill does not have the same feeling as savoring a cup of coffee. Still it has it’s place. We go camping in the warmer months and I am not a morning person. So I don’t fire up the camp stove to make coffee. And I need my coffee. So I take a No-Doz clone, Jet-Alert, from Wal-Mart. I don’t remembe how much it cost, but not much. Each pill has 200 mg. of caffeine. Contrary to what this author says, it does not turn me into some psycho. It’s convenient, but not comforting.
My choice for cheap coffee that I can enjoy is instant (the horror) Maxwell House. After 2 cups I switch to their decaf or else to some herbal tea. Summer is decaf iced tea time after my 2 cups of morning coffee. I can add flavorings to my coffee if I want to, but mostly I only do that for the decaf.
When we’re on the road I find cheap but good coffee at either The Flying J or at Pilot, but that’s maybe because it’s where we stop for gas. The coffee itself isn’t perfect, but if you add some of the flavored creamers and a little sweetener it’s pretty darn good. And cheap for a big cup. I can’t drink their biggest size or I start almost hallucinating, so I’m pretty sure their regular coffee is high octane. But then again they make it mainly for the truckers.
