These stats are for the average household of 2.5 people with 1.3 wage earners. The pre-tax income is around 63,000. Obviously your situation will be different, but it’s fun to see how we stack up to the “average.” You might not spend anything on tobacco (yay!), and spend more on gas. You might not spend as much on entertainment, but more on books. It helps you to see how to lay out a budget for yourself using these categories.
Of course most of us are trying to cut down on expenses in order to save more. So I suggest trying to beat the average per centages in an many categories as you can.
