Save that empty champagne bottle or other beautiful bottle to make this easy, elegant gift: infused olive oil.
“The most elegant gift I made this year was an old clear champagne bottle filled with olive oil, hot peppers, and kaffir lime leaves. This flavored olive oil could have sold in stores for a small fortune given the beautiful bottle and unique ingredients – and it took me five minutes to make.”
This is from an article at WiseBread by Nora Dunn about reducing the amount of wrapping paper used in 2010. There are good ideas for that in the article. I like using baskets as most people find uses for them. I save any beautiful boxes that items come in to use as gift boxes also. Many people reuse them for storage of various items. Fabric gift bags that you make are increasingly welcome for grocery shopping and other uses. My daughter-in-law uses one I gave her (with a gift inside) as an at-home laptop case.
