My grandson, 5, showed me his booklet he made at school the other day. They were supposed to draw & write about their family traditions for the holidays. His first page was a Christmas tree & he wrote “We put up a tree.” The second page was just some circles. I asked him about it & he said it was our family tradition of Grandma making cookies with him. Awww. . . But we only did it last year for the first time.
I guess I’ve started a family tradition. We’ll be making cookies soon & will serve them with pride on Christmas Eve. Our cookies are pretty wacky, since he helps me press the cookie cutters in, slide them onto the cookie sheet, & decorate them later. They tend to have a lot of one color of sugar on each one in a random spill pattern. I expect “we’ll” get better at it over the years.
Next year his brother should be old enough to help a bit. If I get any more grandchildren it could get interesting. Messy, cheap, memorable fun. A good tradition.
