There are certain times of the year that you can save a little money on making purchases, so if you can hold off, it could give a little relief to your wallet. Summer can be the time for peak travel prices, not to mention inflated costs of gas, food, and attire. As we get to fall though, it can be time to move items to make room for the colder weather items that will be filling the store until spring. Before we get depressed about the cold weather coming, there are still a couple more months left to enjoy, so it can be a great time to take advantage of some key purchases that you can make now at the end of summer that will make you even better by leaving a little extra in your bank account.
Time to Book a Trip
With gas being at its peak during the summer and holidays, driving can spike costs a little higher, but still cheaper in the grand scheme of traveling compared to airfare and lodging. As the kids go back to school though, now may be the time to pull the trigger on a trip that you have been wanting to book, as you can now find cheaper airfare and hotel rooms, especially if you are flexible on travel days and don’t have to go Thu-Sun like the rest of the world. If you can even do Sat-Tue, those couple of nights where they are not at peak prices can really save a significant amount.
Buy or Lease a New Car
Now is about the time you will start to see the “end of summer clearance” sales on just about every TV and radio station. They really can make prices look appealing, even though you have to factor in the boatloads of incentives, loyalty discounts, and a hefty down payment to get prices down to what seems basically free, it is still worth it to buy or lease a new car now, as dealers are looking to unload what is left of this year’s models and make room for next year’s which should be starting to go on sale soon.
Technically Summer Items
Although we are heading into September and the weather may finally start to cool down and hopefully see a little more rain (not too much, at least not on the weekends) for my grass’s sake, which is gotten pretty burned up over the last couple months, there is still plenty of time to enjoy summer items that may not be heavily reduced and a great opportunity to purchase. Stores need to make room for the colder weather supplies, so outdoor items such as BBQ grills, patio furniture, and lawnmowers could be a steal.
With the kids due to go back to school any day now (if they haven’t already), you have probably already made the first attempt at back to school shopping to at least get the kids through the beginning of the new school year. If you have the necessities down already, now is the time to pick up anything else that you have been looking for when it comes for supplies, and even clothes for that matter, as stores are trying to reduce supply of back to school items.
Upgrade Your Old Mattress
As I write this I am thinking about my decade+ old mattress that is due to be replaced before my back gives out any day down, so now may be a good time to put up the money for an upgrade. Sure, it’s hard to shell out that kind of money for a quality mattress, but it does last for years, and if you think about the amount of time you are laying on it, hopefully 8 hours a day, it is actually worth the purchase. Linens to go along with the bed could be reduced as well, so you can have a seemingly a whole new bed setup for a fraction of the price. I think I will actually start checking out the sale papers to see what kind of savings I can take advantage of.
Just like anything else that you can purchase, there are always new models coming out, and like cars, fall is about the time that new appliance models are released, so in order to make room, you could see great discounts on refrigerators, stoves, washer and dryer, and considering how trends seem to stay around long enough in the appliance world, if you had planned on upgrading, you are probably pretty safe to do it now and not have to worry about going out of style.
