Are you celebrating the New Year? I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to start 2014!
Here are some great foods for any celebration, but they seem especially good for New Year’s Eve or Day. Enjoy!
If you are serving champagne, why not dress it up with a couple of berries or pieces of fresh fruit in the glass? So pretty and fun.
Ask everyone to bring appetizers to share. It’s so much easier on you and everyone enjoys trying different appetizers. Here are a couple of my favorites:
Hazelnut Encrusted Fried Brie is classy, yummy, and super easy to make. You can make it ahead of time and just warm at the last minute.
Cream Cheese Penguins are adorable (and tasty) no matter where you perch them. Use bits of red pimento for bow ties or winter scarves.
Artichoke Olive Pasta Topping is so flavorful. Add some shrimp to the top of the dish for a pretty presentation. You can serve this on crostini instead for a great appetizer.
You can’t go wrong with Beautiful Pork Tenderloin in Savory Sauce with Roasted Brussels Sprouts. The sauce is to die for!
Honey Carrots: add butter to cooked carrots and then honey or sugar to taste. Add a tiny pinch of salt too. Mix well. Quick, easy, and yum!
Throw together a green salad using baby spinach, other lettuce, nuts, pieces of oranges, and bits of feta cheese. So good!
Bananas Flambe is an easy impressive dessert. Who doesn’t like a flaming dessert for New Year’s?
Easily the most popular recipe of all time on Square Pennies is Easy Baked Pork Chops with Sauerkraut. Many people make this on New Year’s Day because they eat sauerkraut for good luck in the new year. I like it anytime because it’s so tasty and so simple to make.
Do you eat certain foods for New Year’s? My dad always ate pickled herring on saltines for good luck in the new year. I always thought I was lucky I didn’t have to eat that!
Here’s to a rewarding, healthy, and positive 2014!
